Editions of you

If you hope something special will step into your life, then you should step right up to the Editions of You exhibition in Oxford. Starring lots of musical artists and collaborators, zines and of course a poo-eoke booth. It's on now! Right this second!

Friday 25 March 2011

It's just a 3 minute song, it doesn't last very long, but it'll take you to a place I know you'd rather be

I would have mentioned this sooner, but we've (pleasingly) been very busy lately, so I have not got round to it! Anyway, Emily and I are part of an exhibition called Editions of You! The exhibition is themed around artists and musicians working together, and includes some musical zines, hand made record sleeves, and also a kareoke booth, which the gallery commissioned Emily and I to make! I absolutely love kareoke, so I was thrilled that we were asked. The booth will be playing A Film about Poo, and you can sing along with a friend as there are two microphones. Emily and I went off to Oxford (for that is where the exhibition is being held) on Wednesday to install it. We also met the Editions of You team - Lisa, Ellis and Helen - and they were lovely. It was a really fun day, and here is a picture of the finished article:

And here's Emily giving it a test run, hahahaha:

Anyway, tonight is the night of the private view. I really should have mentioned it before, but like I said there is a lot on at the moment and the days have zipped by.

And there's more! Emily and I will be at the exhibition in Oxford, hosting our own stall at the zine fayre. On Saturday April 9th from 11am-6pm you will find us with sweets and also flipbooks, badges, zines and more. Please come and say hello, or even better, buy something. We will put it in a stripy yellow bag for you.

And there's even more! Also on the day of the zine fayre, Billy Payne of Puppet Orchestra will be playing a solo set, which will include a live performance of A Song about Poo from the animation A Film about Poo. It will in fact be the live debut of the song - imagine that! Billy will also be singing other songs from our previous zine Now We Are, and probably some more songs too that are not from any zine, just from his own creative mind. Billy hasn't done a solo set for a long time, so you are all in for a real treat.

So come to the exhibition! Here are the details:

Wow wow wow wow wow wow unbelievable.

Our Nest cohort, Reena Makwana, is giving a talk about the wonders of Nest and its zine-making females. This will be at the Storm in a Teacup zine workshop at this year's Women of the World (WOW) Festival at the Southbank Centre.

Storm in a Teacup have been given a space at the Southbank to initiate zine workshops and talks about zine culture. There will be a chillout area with zine displays, music and talks. Also there will be workstations where guests will be leading practical zine workshops, creating work for the WOW zine and interactive project that anyone can contribute to and lots of other  stuff, I'm sure. WOW Festival is on the 12th and 13th March, and you can get tickets here.

By the way, Emily and I are working on something at the moment, something zine-related, and we will have exciting news on that something very soon...

Guide & Inspire is awesome

A few weeks ago we met Rebecca from Guide & Inspire website, and she decided to interview us. Guide & Inspire is a new website aimed at young people who are or who would like to be filmmakers, and would like to be guided and inspired. It's got bits about filmmaking events, workshops and festivals for young people, and a profiles section about how other filmmakers work. Rebecca runs it all herself, which is really impressive, and she's also very nice to talk to!

You can read our interview here.
